Yesterday was Stuart Holden's event, Bowling with Stu. The event was raising money for Stu's charity, Holden's Heroes. Shoes and coats were also collected to donate to the Star of Hope Mission here in Houston to help the homeless.
I got there a little early to drop off the shoes I had collected. I had contributions from my family as well as another member of Texian Army. I was able to donate a total of 58 pairs of shoes to the cause.
From 1:30 to 2:30 was the VIP event. We were in a small room, conveniently located next to the bar. Stuart went around and signed photos for everyone as well as posed for pictures. Craig Waibel also made an appearance at the event. Craig was clearly going for a best dressed award with his plaid shirt and madras pants. At one point during the VIP event, I went and got the Dynamo Snuggies that had been made for me and 2 other friends. Stu tried on my snuggie and then Craig and Stu put it on together. At this point they had set up the food and everyone started eating the food that was catered by Chicken Kitchen.
At 2:30 we started bowling and Stu started making his rounds visiting with everyone. The silent auction was going on at this time as well. There were plenty of items for people to bid on. From what I could see there were a lot of people very interested in the very large bottles of wine that had been signed by Stu. I believe one was a magnum size and the other was a double magnum. I think I need to thank whoever added/donated the wine to the auction. I believe it kept some people from bidding on other items and I was able to snag and item of my own. I am now the proud owner of Stu's jersey from the October 10th USA vs. Honduras game in Honduras. This was the game we won 3-2 and secured our trip to South Africa for World Cup 2010.
This is the 3rd game worn autographed shirt I have won in a silent auction this year...I think I have found a weakness. It also doesn't help that most of these events take place in the presence of beer!
